Being on an eleven hour long flight is no fun. That is what it takes to get from Frankfurt to San Francisco,though. It is the distance between high school and university. Shared family life and roommates you have, yet, to meet. Long flights also make you melodramatic.
On the other hand there are things that characterize an unbearably long flight:

The coffee is hot and it hurts on top of making you feel obese and embarrassed for having to jostle at least ten people to dig a packet of tissues out of your rucksack.
Oppressively small places - read: intercontinental economy-class flights - suck.
